- Shelter Manager
Description
The Shelter Manager plays a key role in ensuring shelter animals receive quality care, assisting over-crowded agencies through transfer intake, and providing staff coaching and development.
- Assist the Director of Shelter Services in consistent implementation of shelter practices, procedures, and protocols between campuses; alignment to the tenets of Socially Conscious Sheltering, and achievement of SBH strategic goals.
- Manage all aspects of transfer animal selection and intake to maintain adoption-driven capacity at both SB campuses.
- Manage Animal & Client Care Specialist training, certification, and professional development to maintain high performance and compliance standards; participate in performance evaluations; promptly address/report performance concerns; keep Director apprised of staff progress.
- Assist Director of Shelter Services with development and implementation of protocols and processes aimed at efficient kennel operations and client services.
- Train staff and volunteers in foster care procedures and monitor foster care placement to ensure appropriate care and efficient pathways for animals housed off-site;
- Assist Director of Shelter Services in the development of departmental budget; monitor expenditures and resources; work within budget parameters.
- Participate on committees and projects; support/attend donor cultivation and fundraising/outreach events; work collaboratively with all SBH departments; serve as SBH liaison to other organizations.
- Perform daily animal care, kennel support duties, and client services as-needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Associates degree required; Bachelor's Degree (BA) preferred, 2-4 years experience in related industry or equivalent combination of education and experience.
3 years of experience leading teams and managing projects.
A sincere interest in supporting and advocating for the philosophies, policies, and mission of Santa Barbara Humane, a Socially Conscious Shelter.
Knowledge of animal breeds, health, behavior, and safe animal handling preferably within an animal shelter environment.
Possession of a valid California driver’s license
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, as required to collaborate with English-speaking team members and customers, and to ensure safety protocols are followed.
This position is based at our Santa Barbara Campus but requires working 2-3 days a week at our Santa Maria Campus.
